Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior official said the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
