Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
