A person who spiked treats with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
The man played a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She explained the defendant went on to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
Mrs Prior said the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member notified the law enforcement a second time.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
